The Saturday Morning Snapshot Series: Philosophy of Everyday Living
The Message Board Feature Article
At this time of year especially, we contemplate the notion of Vigils. We can be on vigil and yet, still be asleep. Being Conscious, being awake to how THOUGHT creates our momentary lives, and living life to the full is being awake, on vigil; being alert to both creation of the moment and our propensity to live our daily lives in a dream state. More food for thought...

NEWS & EVENTS for FEBRUARY 2009
Those of you in or near Perth will remember our very popular Saturday Snapshots at the Midland Centre. They were a wonderful exploration of the 3 Principles for small groups and we received a number of requests to conduct similar courses again. The first of our Saturday Morning Snapshots, Living Resilience, was held 6 December 2008 and was a wonderful experience for everyone.
If you missed that event and would like the opportunity to explore, expand and discover the dynamics that allow human beings to live from the core of their (naturally resilient) nature; we are now taking Registrations for the 2nd in the series, Philosophy of Everyday Living, which will be held over 3 Saturday mornings in February 2009.
Snapshots are relaxed, interactive and informal events so group sizes are limited... to find out more and register yourself or a small group of friends, follow the link below:
FEBRUARY 2009: PHILOSOPHY of EVERYDAY LIVING
THE MESSAGE BOARD FEATURE ARTICLE
Vigil: being awake when others are asleep
Many religious groups have vigils throughout the year - they are perhaps, a rhythm of life. For Christians, one such period is Advent, which announces the coming of Christ at Christmas. Advent is a moment of experiencing something new or seeing something fresh. A vigil, on the other hand, is a time of wakefulness that is normally given to sleep. Yet, we can experience life and still be asleep. All life is a vigil. It is an opportunity to be awake - to not be asleep at the helm. When we are willing to live our lives in wakefulness, we are living consciously. CONSCIOUSNESS is a spiritual gift within us. Consciousness is our experience of being awake or on vigil.
Consciousness is the degree of vigilance – our wakefulness to the power of 'THOUGHT' at work in our daily lives – and our awareness of the power of creation in our personal thinking. 'Being asleep' is our obsession with our personal thinking - dreamlike preoccupations, worries, expectations and goals. All that we think we are or are not, are moments of being asleep. Jealousy, hatred, anger, discontent - they are all our dreamlike preoccupations – our state of mind which, when asleep; is neither in wakefulness or conscious of our vigil.
|
THOUGHT is the spiritual gift through which we create. When we are awake to the power of THOUGHT, understanding that we create our moment to moment experience, then life is a vigil. We are awake. When we are awake to the illusory nature of our personal thinking, then we are truly on vigil.
|
"We live our lives as if we are awake, and know not that we are in a dream."
|
We can be on vigil and yet, still be asleep. Being Conscious is being awake to how THOUGHT creates our momentary lives. Living life to the full is being awake, on vigil, being alert to both creation of the moment and our propensity to live our daily lives in a dream state.
More often than not we are innocently misled by being more interested in 'what we think', while we do not SEE and are not touched by the miracle 'that we create' in every moment the NOW; and by the power of THOUGHT, brought alive via CONSCIOUSNESS.

WE ARE WHAT WE DO
|
One of the biggest challenges for us today is to respect an inner silence. It requires of us a willingness to suspend ‘what we think’, that constant chatter of thoughts and listen to THE silence within. Giving value to something more than ‘what we think’ invites us to experience a moment of newness, freshness and insightfulness. This moment is a real advent - a moment of coming - which transforms our whole being.
For most of us, it seems that we are unwilling to still ourselves long enough for THE silence to transform our being and bring alive the fruits of such silence. I invite you all to gift yourself with a renewed respect for THE silence. Not easy, yet, deeply rewarding and powerfully good business. It invigorates who we are and in turn transforms our relationships.
Listening to THE silence is not a different form of thinking, such as quiet reflection or pondering. THE silence is just that ... an inner stillness ... a "no-thing" on our mind moment.
It is my view that the world of business and, in fact, our lives, need such moments.
THE silence nourishes, restores and invigorates our actions. Much is being said about corporate greed, lack of market confidence, insecure investors, spiralling individual debt and environmental folly. Isn't this just the outward symptoms of our disconnection from ourselves and the world we live in?
THE silence is all about nourishing, restoring and invigorating the individual and group connection to LIFE in the everyday.
Until next time... David
